1/2 Our typical Conflict Solution Couple: “Mickey” and “Priscilla”

cars4Any relationship is like trying to combine two separate individuals. For the example of this series, we are focusing on Mickey, the Mac truck with Priscilla, the Porsche. In any lasting relationship, there will be design changes: welding, sheet metal adaptations, some bits cut off and bits added on. Some things will have to be adapted to make this a functioning, flexible and useful vehicle (not like this one!!).

So let me tell you about Mickey and Priscilla since you will run into them many times in this series.

Mickey was born in Chicago, Illinois (a very large town) as the first of 3 brothers and played High School and University Football. He was recruited early by major league team, playing footy now for 5 years. Now at 35, at the top of his team, he still enjoys all competitive sports. He still wants to climb mountains, skydiving and someday, skying in Austria.

If we look deeper into Mickey’s background, he was used to the emotional distance between parents. His mother, Maria was a ‘do-it-all’ Mum, living at home to keep the family together. Dad, well he was the typical absent, workaholic dad but who also enjoyed footy and sports. He is often found at his parents’ home, watching their giant TV with lots of friends around.

Mickey has mostly male input into his world. He is very independent, handsome, extrovert, outgoing. He is used to plenty of money with a huge following of friends, team members and media, hero of the town!

He has had plenty of experience in the girlfriend area but none who stayed the distance. He comes from a nominal Catholic background, has little interest in ‘getting to the bottom of things’. In true male form, he avoids conflict. He fits the model ‘Mac Truck’ image!

Then we have Priscilla:
Born in Littleville, Ohio (a very small town), she is the youngest of 3 daughters. Mother did it tough as she was diagnosed as bipolar in her 40’s, after the girls were cars2Sborn.

Her dad is a protective, supportive dad but the whole family is emotionally distant from mum. Priscilla worked her way through University, has her law clerk degree with possibilities of going into law as profession. She is well liked at work for her ‘team-work thinking’. She is independent, introvert, shy, but with a few close friends outside family circle.

At 32, she lives on her own and has had very few male relationships. She keeps to a strict budget, enjoys reading, scrapbooking and movies with girlfriends. She learned good debating skills and insists on ‘truth’ and resolving issues. She is now ready for a family and settling down.

Mum’s comments about males has left her cautious, self-conscious and inhibited about her body and sex although she has the looks that do attract male attention. Priscilla was once committed to Baptist church but has reacted to the ‘male-orientation’ thinking. All in all, she is conservative, romantic at heart, waiting patiently for ‘the right one’. She has become the beautiful, sleek Porsche in our story.

So can you see some potential fireworks ahead as they met and decide to pursue a relationship? How can we combine a Mac truck with a Porsche in a practical, usable way? Continue with us as we discuss this dilemma.
