Phillip Zimbardo discusses the Demise of Guys,

ted1I found an interest website to continued our discussion about the war of the sexes: The Demise of Guys? Psychologist Philip Zimbardo asks, “Why are boys struggling?”

He shares some stats (lower graduation rates, greater worries about intimacy and relationships) and suggests a few reasons — and challenges the TED community to think about solutions.

Some very interesting comments, everything from porn and video games are to blame. Other point to ;arge section of the education system being taught be females, some with militant views about males. Others comment on the vast sexual revolution that has left males uncertain as to the new ‘rules’ and relationships with females. One comment was “The problem is narcissistic women who do not care about men” – slightly one sided though.

Now we add the rise of gay rights, pushes to recognize the 5 proclaimed genders and then ….not wonder males are unsure of the ground rules. Social relationships are suffering, along with commitment and confidence by many males.

Others point to the pervasiveness of rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, gender discrimination, the gender wage gap, sexual objectification and porn encouraging women to fight for their rights.

Then some point to the increase of drugs, alcohol and the under and under assent to lawlessness and disrespect of parents. Excessive use of the internet, video games and male lack of input into acedemic activities will result in stronger females and weaker males, thus job differences. (Not sure how this works out as males still dominate higher paid jobs.)

Social anxieties, mental / development issues combine to influence sex roles today. Godly mothering and fathering isfhead03 under attack, leaving the children exposed to abuse, neglect and even abandonment. Both sexes grow up looking for belonging, love and security. ….but where is it today? Cults feed on such young people as do those who exploit sex, drugs and gangs.

So yes, the demise of males is an interesting topic but maybe deeper, it is the demise of a God-based society. As people are hurt, one way or another, they become self-focused, independent of God’s ways of dealing with pain and seek other ways to relieve pain. Thus porn, video games, cults, drugs, alcohol, thrill seeking and etc. are used to fill the void.

However, there is only one way to fill that void …. Hearing from our Creator God and doing things in His (loving) way. You give a little bit to the false ways of pain relief and it will grow. Find the real ‘pain relief’.
